Day 8: Information and Knowledge

Image
How does information become knowledge? Information becomes knowledge when one puts it into context. Every application of information should be ethical; otherwise, the very purpose of knowledge is defeated.   (Yuda, 2017) Planning An Academic Trip Plan A : Disocover Geological Tranquility in Iceland's Blue Lagoon Teller, J. Day 7: Information Literacy

The most influential person in my life is I. An ode to self care. wearing green shades and tryna look cool #selfie WHO: I realized that I am the most influential person in my life. I dictate where I lead my life. My influences, though eclectic and multiple, are products of my growing self-consciousness and self-awareness. WHAT: I grow. This is what I did to influence myself. I nurture myself, and nurture myself too in the light of others.  WHEN: Though I do not yet have a cohesive view as to who I am, I would say that I discovered a great part of me just recently, as I entered the hazy daydream-turned-nightmare world that is adolescence. WHY: It dawned to me that I must give myself credit where credit is due. This is statement is my ode to self care. HOW: I influence myself in everything I do and think about. From the way I eat to the people I talk too, I am constantly in a self-discourse as to what path I should take. ___________________________________________...

Day 6: The Internet of Things (IoT)

Image
Picture taken from: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jacobmorgan/2014/05/13/simple-explanation-internet-things-that-anyone-can-understand/#1ed15f551d09 This is the change we need! Today, we were tasked to find out what the Internet of Things (IoT) is. I am totally oblivious as to what it is. Ever as ravenous for knowledge, I rummage through the World Wide Web loot box and here is what I discovered. Trust me. The IoT is definitely an interesting concept, a. In your own words, define Internet of Things. The Internet of Things (IoT) is basically a conceptualized system of interconnected things. When I say things, I mean EVERYTHING. From house lighting to municipal-level waste management, the IoT aims to connect devices that can turn on and turn off into a global, holistic web. Some sources even claim that the IoT links humans and animals too. I do not entirely disagree. b. What brought this theory about? Despite other theorists and experts pitching in their take on th...

Day 5: Timeline

This is my personal media exposure. Please do not judge me. (Note: This post is a log for November 20, 2017. However, it was published only today.)

Day 4: Info Loot 1.0

Before anything else. Today's activity: I would say with confidence that I'am quite adept in the use of various media. Having engrossed myself in the Internet, in readings and other activities, I sometimes think too highly of my media knowledge and abilities. But we never cease to learn! Today, I learned something I have never heard of until today. Creative Commons . Everything in the web is licensed. There comes an argument with this fact. If everything we see in the Internet is licensed, then does it automatically mean that copy-pasting or downloading any piece of  the Internet considered theft? If yes, then millions of students are committing illegal acts. Gladly, this isn't the case. Creative Commons allows us to share and use shared media. By giving media platforms a unique license, we are able to utilize shared media; we are able to download and use photos, music and videos legally.  What a relief!  Picture taken from: https://commons...

Day 3: Commonly Overlooked

Image
Today, we discussed Edmodo's acceptable use policy. I'm glad we did. I think it is ever important that we discuss our use of Internet and other media in terms of the legalities. We must know our rights and our responsibilities. We must know what our limits are. The Internet is a vast, open world. It can be dangerous to venture it all alone without knowledge of how to straddle along! Screenshot take from: https://www.edmodo.com/corporate/acceptable-use-policy I'm appreciating this subject more as the days go by! (Note: This post is a log for November 8, 2017. However, it was published only today.)

Day 2: Clearing Up Misconceptions

Image
I had a misconception that media literacy simply implied a certain degree of knowledge about the various media we use. However, upon further dissection, I soon discovered that media literacy encompasses much more than that. It is a discipline. It is knowing when and how to use media. It equates to being responsible with our consumption of media, as well as its propagation in what various means. Certainly we all need to media literacy in our lives! Today we were tasked to make a framework for some article we want to write (as journalists)! Here is a what mine looks like: How did these questions help you as a journalist? Definitely, a framework helps a journalist organize his/her thoughts for effective dissemination. It also allows you to examine yourself and your goals. What are you trying to accomplish? What for? For whom? These questions are certainly what we should ask ourselves before making an article.  Trust me. I'm a student journalist. #TheNucleus #not...

Day 1: Dissecting My Usage and My Knowledge

Image
Weekly Interaction Log with Media and Information Providers Which media provider did you spent the most time? I spend most of my time reading online articles. I watch Youtube videos a lot too! What roles does the media play in your lives? I guess I could say media I do a lot with media. I use it for recreation, particularly by listening to music and watching interesting videos. I learn a lot from reading the news, and reading others stuff from books. I communicate with social media. Technology Literacy I think Technology literacy has something to do with our knowledge about technology, especially the latest ones. Media Literacy Same as how I defined the previous term, media literacy may encompasses our general understanding of what media is, and what are its different forms. Information Literacy Information literacy could refer to our knowledge too of information, including the ways its forms, its uses, and the multiple ways it is propagated. Media and Inf...
